Why Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi
Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi is a three-island 6★ that takes the 'Hilton at the top of the brand stack' assignment seriously. The main island holds 122 villas and the bulk of the dining; the second island is reserved for the spa and adults-only pool; the third is the Private Island residence — at $30,000+ a night, the largest single buyout in the Maldives, with three pools, a private spa pavilion, butlers, and a dedicated speedboat. The 45-min speedboat transfer (no seaplane) is unusually quick for a property this far up the food chain. Best for a long honeymoon, a milestone family trip, or a buyout for a wedding. The food across 11 restaurants is genuinely strong — Terra (treetop dining) and Glow (beachfront) are the standouts. Skip it if you want the rustic-Soneva feel; this is the polished-marble version of the country.
