Why The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli is Marriott's flagship in the country and the best argument for the brand's signature butler service: it actually shows up. 77 villas across Vommuli island in Dhaalu Atoll, including the often-photographed John Jacob Astor Estate (a four-bedroom whale-shape overwater villa that's been on more design magazine covers than any other Maldives villa) and a strong roster of restaurants — the standout is Crust, a wood-fired oven over the lagoon. Seaplane in is 45 minutes and $870 return per person. Best for guests who like the formality of the St. Regis brand done right; skip it if 'butler service' makes you uncomfortable rather than waited-on.
