Why Six Senses Laamu
Six Senses Laamu is the only resort in Laamu Atoll, sitting on Olhuveli island in the deep south. Its claim to fame for surfers is Yin Yang, a punchy right-hander that breaks directly off the property — not 'a short boat ride' but 'walk down the beach and paddle out'. The resort runs a Tropicsurf programme with private guides, and the season runs March–October. Beyond surf, Laamu is one of the country's most biodiverse atolls — manatee-style nurse sharks year-round, regular dolphin pods, deep walls. 97 villas in Six Senses' signature woven-wood, no-walls architecture; the food is excellent, the spa is one of the best in the brand. Best for surfers willing to spend, couples who want remote, families on a long stay. Skip it if you can't justify the 1-hour domestic flight + 15-min speedboat at the start and end of every trip.
